Numbness: This is trauma to the nerve at time of injection.  this may last for quite sometime because the blood supply to nerves is minimal.  Hot compresses, massaging the area and the use of tens unit will speed up the recovery time.

Swelling, pain ...: Root canal is usually a localized infection but can become systemic.  Symptoms of a systemic infection include pain, swelling, fever, loss of function and redness.  If your symptoms from the emergency have subsided healing is probably occurring.  I would be best to revisit your dentist to check your progress.

A few days: Once the abscess is drained, most symptoms go away quickly, within a few days. If the abscess is still in the gums, your dentist may suggest that you rinse with warm salt water a few times a day or you may need antibiotics to help fighting infection. Regardless, the abscess will not be cured unless the cause is completely eliminated.

Lymph Node: This could be a lymph node that became enlarged in response to the problem with your tooth. Would just let the dentist know.

Sometimes: If the root canal is necrotic(infected) sometimes a post-op swelling may occur.
This does happen occasionally.
But only in a small% of cases.

Needs examination: Difficult to say - may be an ongoing infection or simply inflammatory tissue or some other issue such as salivary gland infection.  Needs fairly prompt dental or medical examination (GP or urgent care or urgent dentist)  and right away if breathing or swallowing difficulties.  All the best.

It'll take a while: Sounds like it was a severe infection.  It will take 4-6 weeks for swelling to go down. Pain should go down by the end of antibiotics. If it doesn't then a scan to see if infection is still trapped in sinus cavity is a good step.

No: There should be no swelling after 2 weeks following a root canal.  I would recommend returning to the dentist who performed the treatment.

Call dentist: Call the dentist who did the root canal and inform him you have pain and swelling.  He should tell you what you need to do.  He needs to know that you have discomfort.

Root Canal: You should call your dentist as there may be an underlying infection that needs to be addressed.
