Should be OK: We used think that knuckle-cracking is bad and one may develop arthritis..There is no such evidence.
As long as you are not having pain or instability in your knee, popping/crackling by itself is likely harmless.....

i hurt my knee at gymnastics. it gives out even in my brace. i'm on crutches. it doesn't always hurt to walk on it but it hurts so bad to run, jump??

It : It sounds like you may be dealing with a ligament or meniscus injury. You will need an examination by your primary care provider who will likely order an x-ray followed by an MRI if deemed necessary. If you have ppo insurance you can go directly to orthopedics.

"very painful" = Dr: If you truly are having a lot of pain, then it suggests more serious injury and should be seen soon. See your dr / urgent care / orthopedist for examination and likely x-ray or other imaging to identify problem and begin proper treatment with less delay. Meantime, "rice" (rest-ice-compression-elevation) may help reduce swelling and discomfort.

: The 8th,9th&amp; 10th ribs are not connected to the sternum and these are called " false ribs". The 11th &amp; 12 th ribs are called floating ribs. If the cartilage holding these ribs has been damaged or malfunction in any way, twisting motions may cause pain or a popping sensation. Some clinicians are skeptical of this explanation though but I feel 
 patients have emphatically experienced such symptoms

Knee cap tracking: It sounds like you are having problems with knee cap tracking or subluxating.  It is common for young females to have loose knee caps that get slightly off tack and cause locking and popping.  This could also be cartilage damage or meniscus tearing.  You should be evaluated by a knee specialist and possibly get an MRI to make sure there isn't any cartilage damage or tearing.
