A member asked:

Why does my rib feel like it's catching on something when i twist a certain way? i've had this for a while - under the lower, diagonal, medial edge of my right rib, i get this "popping" sensation- like when my knee cracks out of place?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The 8th,9th& 10th ribs are not connected to the sternum and these are called " false ribs". The 11th & 12 th ribs are called floating ribs. If the cartilage holding these ribs has been damaged or malfunction in any way, twisting motions may cause pain or a popping sensation. Some clinicians are skeptical of this explanation though but I feel patients have emphatically experienced such symptoms
