Crohn's disease: Crohn's disease may affect from the esophagus to the rectum, so if the kid has evident esophageal inflammation, would be good to make sure is not secondary to Crhon's.

is 20 mg prilosec once daily for 3 months enough to cure lower third esophagus of grade b reflux esophagitis with focal surface erosion? and how serious is this diagnosis? is this a severe erosion?

: I think you have moderate esophagitis but I don't think 20 mgs per day of omeprazole is sufficient for healing. If your gastroenterologist agrees you could take it twice a day for 4 weeks or switch to a stronger PPI.

how often is barrett esophagus missed on an endoscopy with biopsies due to being hidden by esophagitis? i was diagnosed only with grade b reflux esophagitis but should i be worried barrett (or worse) was missed?

: Barrett's esophagus is a condition in which the cells lining the lower esophagus change and become abnormal. This can occur as a result of long-term acid reflux disease (GERD) and is considered a precancerous condition. The diagnosis of Barrett's esophagus requires a biopsy during an upper endoscopy procedure.

It's possible for Barrett's esophagus to be missed if it is hidden by esophagitis.

Possible: To avoid worsening symptoms and possible transformation to Barrett's, I strongly recommend close follow up by a GI specialist for proper treatment and monitoring.

can an impaired esophagus cause candida esophagitis or can candida esophagitis cause an impaired esophagus? or are they unrelated to each other? thank you in advance?

: It depends on what you mean by impaired. If you mean a motility disorder, the 2 are not related. But, candida esophagitis can lead to ulcerations. It also causes painful swallowing, difficulty swallowing and chest discomfort. Those are the main symptoms/complications of candida esophagitis. If you have this, see a GI doctor for treatment. i have la grade b esophagitis. is it possible that barretts esophagus is hidden? also, what should i eat? should i stick to no fatty food, chocolate, typical gerd diet? will i have this forever? could forceful vomit session have given me this?

: Repeated vomiting is one of the causes of esophagitis. The commonest cause is GERD. Stopping vomiting &amp; managing GERD will help heal your esophagitis. Abstaining from alcohol,aspirins,meds like advil&amp; aleve,avoiding excess caffeine are all important. Your gastroscopy didn't reveal Barretts. Your esophagitis won't be permanent. Follow your gastroenterologist's instructions.

how often does an upper endoscopy with biopsy miss cancer or pre-cancer in esophagus and stomach ? i have had one that said i had reflux esophagitis but thats it, but i am worried they missed something. how reassuring is this result?

: No test is 100% sensitive even with biopsy; however, you should be reassured &amp; not worried because your doctor already did what needs to be done. If you have reflux esophagitis, your symptoms will improve quickly with treatment (antireflux measures + diet + medication). If symptoms get worse even with appropriate treatment then both you and GI doctor will know repeat EGD is necessary. Good luck.

The first part: is quite straight-forward. GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) with inflammation of the lower 3rd of the esophagus, antrum (lower) stomach and first part of small intestine (duodenum) was found. I believe PAN 40 is pantoprazole 40 mg, a proton-pump inhibitor. Don't know about PAN L and PAN MPS. Moderately serious to have inflammation in all 3 sites;should heal with proper treatment of 6-8 weeks

Allergist/GI: See an allergist or a GI doc who is comfortable managing eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Often, patients with this condition are managed by both specialties. EoE is often managed with multiple therapies, including food elimination diets, proton pump inhibitors, and swallowed steroids depending on severity and symptoms. Please see doc as this is a chronic, sometimes severe, condition.
