Tonsils:  I suspect you mean the "regular" tonsils which are also called the pharyngeal tonsils. The lingual tonsils are at the base of the tongue and you wouldn't be able to see these yourself. They are both part of the Waldeyer's ring in the oropharynx. Lymphoma &amp; carcinoma can certainly affect this area. Chronic tonsillitis and Mono are other infectious causes of tonsillar enlargement

i can see my epiglottis it is yellow and large i feel like im struggling to swallow it tastes metalic any idea what this is ?

It is your uvula: It is virtually impossible to see your own epiglottis. It is most likely you are seeing your uvula which hangs down from the soft palate. Uvulitis (swelling of the uvula) is most commonly from an infection. Group A Streptococcus is the most common but there are others as well as viral infections. It can cause difficulty swallowing and breathing. I would strongly encourage you to see your doctor.

Not yet: The epiglottis does connect to the trachea and esophagus. There have been a small # of trachea transplants with tracheas built out of artificial structures filled in with stem cells from the same patient - this means they don't have to be concerned about rejection.

Dr. can check throat: Throat pain can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. Some people can normally see their epiglottis. Having a swollen epiglottis is a "call an ambulance" emergency.

is epiglottitis rare in 14yr? can they get it if they have bronchitis? if you have epiglottitis is your epiglottis then visible?

Epiglottis is rare: You can always see your epiglottis with an xray or camera down the nose. Vaccines have made epiglottis much less common.

: Some can, some cannot. I don't consider it a problem.

my sister is 19. she saw 2 days ago a small tongue, looks like epiglottis on back of her tongue. not bothering, no pain. will it go itself?

No: It stays there forever. She was born with it. The epiglottis covers the trachea (covers the hole leading to the lungs) so that she doesn't choke when swallowing. In kids, it is easier to see. It is a bit harder to see in adults, but if she is 19 years old and her epiglottis is easily seen, she'll likely be that way forever.

is it normal for adults not to be able to see their epiglottis even when pushing their tongue down forcefully? i can't see mine at all, and is it possible for your epiglottis to go higher up or will it always stay at same height?

See below: Your not being able to see your epiglottis is not a disease or disorder. Epiglottis does move up and down with swallowing.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

what is the epiglottis?

See below: It is a small piece of tissue just behind the base of the tongue in the throat. It's basically a lid with a hinge. Its purpose is to covert the top of the trachea (windpipe) when you swallow so that the contents in your mouth go down your esophagus and not the trachea into your lungs. That would cause choking and risk infection like pneumonia or other damage to the lungs.

is it normal to have white areas on my epiglottis?

Not normal.: You might have strep throat, but Amoxicillin should take care of it.  Other things can cause it too, such as diphtheria, so show it to your doctor.
