i've had a palpable 0.5cm anterior cervical lymph node for three months.  when i noticed the node, i had folliculitis in the neck and the spots went away with antibacterial cream. its size fluctuates when i squeeze it a lot. my gp is not concerned?

: It can months for a lymph node draining a site of infection to return to normal size. You may feel the node every couple of weeks, if the lymph gland doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. Yes, I believe so: Lymph nodes in the neck are usually not palpable unless they are enlarged. So if it is "Large" then it has to be palpable, but we need to know the size and for how long has it  been there? Is it getting bigger? if it is more than one inch in size, it needs to be further evaluated   (?biopsy) to find the cause especially if it is getting bigger.

: Lymphadenopathy typically signals some kind of localized infection. In neck it can indicate infection in throat, mouth, sinus or ear. If this has been going on for 10 weeks, an in person exam and some basic labs may reveal the problem. Pulsating mass in neck could be a number of things- In person exam vital.

May need antibiotics: If a lymph node in the neck suddenly increases in size to one inch, over a time period of 1-2 days, there may be an infection such as strep throat, or there may be a bacterial infection in the lymph node without strep throat. In either case, the doctor may want to prescribe antibiotics if his evaluation suggests a bacterial (meaning not viral) infection.

have had a palpable lymph node in neck for over 10 yrs. us was done 15 years ago and showed permanent benign enlarged lymph node. no follow up recommended. no changes in size, shape. still small. should i be concerned it could have become cancerous?

Timing and results: Timing does not appear right as it sounds that the ultrasound was done before the lymph node becoming palpable, which is not the usual scenario. Also an US might show an enlarged lymph node, no comment is usually made as if temporary vs permanent. If no changes in size what would be the reason for concern?

Lymphoma Unlikely : You may feel the node every couple of weeks, if the lymph gland doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor.

See a doctor: if you have boggy turbinates you probably have allergic rhinitis or hay fever, which can be associated with enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. get your doctor to check you out. there are other reasons for enlarged lymph nodes.

i have an enlarged cervical lymph node that measures 1.75x2.0 in.  it is also hard and somewhat painful  should i get it checked out or wait.  ?

Lymph Node Swelling: Greetings.  An enlarged lymph node should be evaluated and treated.  In my practice,  I would treat you with an antibiotic.  After 14 days,  the node should have shrunk in size.  If it was still enlarging,  then an image guided biopsy would be ordered.  The sooner you are evaluated,  the sooner you are treated.  Good Luck.
