Not much: Gallbladder removal, or cholecystectomy, usually has no long term problems.  The gallbladder serves to store and concentrate bile, but is not a critical organ.

Accepted Answer

They are unrelated: Normal men, women, boys, and girls masturbate (it's universal). It isn't harmful, as the body goes through similar effects during regular sex with a partner (but too much of anything may become a problem). Masturbation does not relate to gallstone or gall bladder removal, cause hair loss or gray hair, make you weak, cause heart problems, lower testosterone, change your weight, damage eyes, etc...

Accepted Answer

Yes, but...: ....I recommend surgery.  Back in the 1980s, when we first developed lithotripsy (shock wave rx) for removal of kidney stones, we experimented with this for gallstones.  Similarly, there are medications that can dissolve some gallstones.  Alternative therapies advocate "gallbladder flushes".  Unfortunately, all of these leave behind the "gallstone factory"; the best treatment at present is surgery.

No restrictions.: After your gall bladder is removed, you really don't have any dietary restrictions.  About 30% of women who have gall bladder removal will have post meal urgency, which is an aggressive urge to have a bowel movement soon after meals.  This is not due to the absence of the gall bladder. It is self limited, but if it persists longer than one likes, try imodium (loperamide). Good luck

i have 17mm gallstone but no pain whatsoever but gastroenterologist suggests for removal of gallbladder. is it right.

How lucky are you?: Your story begs the question, what brought you to the gastroenterologist in the first place? If it was indeed abdominal discomfort or nausea, not even necessarily severe pain you're probably getting good advice. Without luck a 17 mm stone is likely to eventually cause trouble and given the availability of efficient  minimally - invasive gallbladder removal (laparoscopy), I'd opt to get rid of it.

Best thing to do: Is to return to the surgeon who performed your gallbladder operation.  It can be any number of post-cholecystectomy problems, such as retained stone, liver disease, pancreatitis, etc.  If you cannot reach a surgeon, get to a GI specialist.

had gallbladder removal 2 weeks ago.  had black pigment gallstones.  prior to surgery had back pain right upper side. yesterday and today pain is back?

Two possibilities: 1. "Ghost pain" from the AREA fwhich may have had some inflammatory reaction to your surgical procedure
2. the right upper side pain is due to some OTHER issue(s)
Consult first with the surgeon who removed your Gallbladder

Accepted Answer

Rare but can happen: It is not unheard of to have bile duct stones after removal of the gallbladder.  Usually it occurs within two year of the operation, but can occur later.  An ERCP can usually take care of it.

i was diagnosed with bilary colic and gallstones last week. i have gallbladder removal surgery in 2 weeks. i haven't had another attack, but keep having sharp sticking pains where gb is. is this normal and can i treat with advil?

Surgery: With upcoming surgery I recommend avoiding medication like Advil which can potentiate bleeding. Take acetomeniphen, but don't exceed the recommended doses and don't mix with alcohol intake. If your discomfort worsens, notify your surgeon for instructions.

is a cbd stent always placed in an ercp during a cbd gallstone removal? if placed, will that stent need to be removed in a few months? my brother had choledocholithiasis which got treated and the doctor said it is cured and needs no follow up?

: You are correct. NOT always placed - only when there is CBD blockage. Needs to be removed in a few weeks/months, depending. Have him see another doc
