How lucky are you?: Your story begs the question, what brought you to the gastroenterologist in the first place? If it was indeed abdominal discomfort or nausea, not even necessarily severe pain you're probably getting good advice. Without luck a 17 mm stone is likely to eventually cause trouble and given the availability of efficient minimally - invasive gallbladder removal (laparoscopy), I'd opt to get rid of it.
