my ear keeps popping and making crackling sounds non-stop, every day. the doctor told me i didn't have an ear infection or wax buildup. i was also having head and jaw pressure. almost felt my jaw locked once. could this possibly be a tmj?

: The Eustachian tubes are a thin tube connecting your middle ear with the back of the throat. It allows mucus made by the walls of the middle ear to drain out &amp; air from the throat to move in, equalizing the air pressure on the ear drum. The popping occurs when a partly collapsed tube lets air enter. It is not a disease &amp; often increases in allergy season. It is not TMJ.

: If you can produce these sounds by jaw motions they could be from the TMJ. Since you don't complain of.much discomfort, Since you're also experiencing other discomfort, I think it's worthwhile to consult an oral surgeon for diagnosis and advice at this time.

Not inner ear: You most likely mean water in the external ear canal.  it should resolve with head movement and time and if there is a normal ear drum, you should not be concerned.  If the symptoms do not spontaneously resolve in 2 or 3 days, then see an ENT doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

Possible Eustachian: when you have nasal congestion, that swelling also involves the opening from the nose to the middle ear called the Eustachian Tube. When your ET is swollen, air in the middle ear gets absorbed, creating a vacuum. The you yawn or the tube opens, there is a crackling from the sudden change in air pressure.
You also may be describing jaw joint swelling.

Middle ear effusion: Middle ear effusion is most common cause for crackling in the ears. This can be caused from viral infection, allergies, bacterial infection or eustacian tube dysfunction.  An underlying thryoid problem can cause the fluid to be thicker and cause crackling. Things to try: maximum beconase dose, nasal saline and a topical nasal decongestant can help (three days only). If no resolution antibiotic.
