Middle ear effusion: Middle ear effusion is most common cause for crackling in the ears. This can be caused from viral infection, allergies, bacterial infection or eustacian tube dysfunction. An underlying thryoid problem can cause the fluid to be thicker and cause crackling. Things to try: maximum beconase dose, nasal saline and a topical nasal decongestant can help (three days only).
