Elongating DVT?: You should be under the care of a physician since this condition can be disabling or life threatening. Initial treatment should have been compression stockings and nonstrenuous ambulation. Addition of anticoagulation medication and ultrasound tracking of clot location determines the next step which may include vein ligation, clot lysis or filter placement.

Etiology: You should be trying to discover the etiology for the clot.
Make sure your medical team is aware of all the medicines you are taking, and any OTC products that you are using.

They will be looking to try to determine if there is a predisposition for recurrence, and give you advice on what to do in the future to avoid recurrence.

i just started xarelto for possible dvt yesterday - they're waiting for d dimer results to determine if this is longer term thing. i bonked my forehead this afternoon and am panicked about a bleed. no bruise, no bump, no headache - feel fine. ?

Trauma with Xarelto.: If you develop new symptoms within the next hour or two you need to proceed to the emergency room pronto.  Otherwise just be more careful and concerned.

i recently had an unprovoked dvt in my left arm, started on xarelto 1 week ago. how safe is it now to play golf? can it increase likelihood of clot moving to lung? better wait longer for xarelto to be in my system or is activity not a risk?

: Usually golf is not a contact sport so it is safe to resume playing. If your game is worse, you can’t blame the Xarelto.

how to prevent dvt on long flights/trips?

Stay mobile: Prolonged sitting, particularly with  the knee in a flexed position, is a risk fctor for a deep vein thrombosis (dvt).  Options to try to prevent this include getting up and walking around every 30 minutes or so, pumping your calf muscles up and down while sitting, trying to extend the knee as much as possible while sitting, and possibly taking an Aspirin product (which "thins" the blood).

Indefinitely: Up to few months from the initial episode acute symptoms may improve at least partially, up to half of cases develop post-thrombotic syndrome with chronic pain and swelling.

Depends: Sometimes a DVT can be treated for as little as three months with blood thinners and sometimes it is longer, six months to a year.  It depends on the location,  extent,  and internal improvement in the blood clot.  A follow-up ultrasound can be helpful in determining how long it meets to be treated. I hope this helps.
