Sinuses: If you hold your nose shut and try to blow and the air comes through your mouth you have a sinus exposure.  If it was just that the roots of the tooth were long and was up in sinus area without an exposure then that is different. The pain can be many things, but is usually healing or dry socket.  You should see your dentist for an evaluation.

Why? and No!: Why do you want to take antibiotic?  Did you just pull it yourself? Baby tooth? Did a dentist extract it?  In either case, it is not a good idea to take antibiotics unless prescribed by a dentist or physician, and in that case they would prescribe the proper type, dosage and frequency.  Doxycycline would be a bad choice anyway.

Infection: Do you have an infection? If not, then antibiotics are useless. Please see a dentist for proper care. Antibiotics do not fix rotten teeth, they only manage infections and prolong the inevitable: a visit to the dentist.

Not good idea: First of all Doxycycline is the wrong spectrum of antibiotic for aril use.  Second, and most important, antibiotics do not cure abscessed teeth.  The drug is used to control the severity of the infection, but antibiotic will not eliminate the infected tooth material.  That has to be done with decay removal, root canal treatment, and/or extraction.  Please see a dentist for rx.

Maybe: Tetracycline type antibiotics are not the best choice for a dental abscess. He is better off with a penicillin type(amoxicillin), Erythromycin or clindamycin.

i'm on entresto, metoprolol, an lasix for heart failure, was recently prescribed macrobid for uti and now i have a tooth infection which i have doxycycline for is it ok to take them both together or should i wait the 5 days til macrobid is done?

: You could ask your doctor if the urine culture is sensitive to doxycycline and then switch to doxycycline alone if it is. If you need to take both antibiotics together, watch for diarrhea as this is a potential side effect of taking both antibiotics at the same time. Good luck!

i've had an abscess before from iving. i missed a shot today, i was prescribed doxycycline which i took. what else can i do before seeing a doctor?

Warm compresses: You could put warm compresses on the area where you "missed a shot" and have the lump that you described in a previous question.  You could also seriously consider stopping your IV drug use -- which you told us earlier is meth.  We suggested that you not wait to get medical attention for what you described.  If a doctor prescribed you doxycyline for this, you already have a doctor to see.

i have a picc line in and vancomycin 1.43 g per bag every 8 hours . it's been a month and they are saying at least another month. i had abscess at the base of my spine from a surgery. can i do oral for the remainder? linezoid? doxycycline?

: Almost certainly you need to continue IV treatment. No distant online forum can safely even any other kind of advice. Every case is different. Discuss with the doctors treating you. Good luck.

went to the dentist and said i might havea abscess. he prescribe doxycycline and vicodin for pain i'm having. it's not helping. what else can do. help?

Have tooth treated: Antibiotics are prescribed in order to help shrink the abscess. It may take 24-48 hours to take effect.  If an abscess is present it needs to be drained, either through the gum or by opening up the tooth. The tooth would then need a root canal. The dentist should have made a follow up appt with you.  Medications are not magic they take some time to work.
