Empty nose syn: Empty nose syndrome is also called ozena and is characterized by an extremely dry nose with nasal crusting.  If the surgeon is careful and just concentrates on the inferior turbinates and does a sun mucosal resection with and out fracture of the inferior turbinates, it is unlikely to happen. I have done hundreds or these surgeries and have not had one case of ozena.  Good luck.

Side affect: Empty nose syndrome is a side affect of turbinate reduction.  I wouldn't worry about getting rid of it until you have the problem

Post nasal surgery: Since you are only 5 weeks after sinus surgery I would think the incidence of empty nose syndrome this soon would be unlikely.  Your surgeon should certainly evaluate you and determine the cause of your constant nasal drip(rhinorrhea).  If he doesn't answer your concerns get a second opinion from a board certified otolaryngologist.  Good luck

Yes : Septoplasty and turbinate reduction can cause apnea like symptoms in the postoperative period.  The nasal passage is usually swollen following surgery. This can result in mouth breathing.  Remember that apnea means the breathing stops for ten seconds or more.  True apnea is more likely to happen in someone that may be predisposed to it. The blockage following surgery is temporary.

hello! i have raynaulds syndrome and i am wanting to get an open primary rhinoplasty in september. my syndrome is not all that bad, no purple hands or toes or anything, but in the winter my nose does get pretty cold. is it ok for me to have surgery?

: I assume you've told the surgeon that you have Raynaud's syndrome. You know what triggers your episodes and how to avoid them. Nasal symptoms are not as problematic as with fingers &amp; toes. Taking vasodilating meds like amlodipine may prevent symptoms. Nevertheless, your surgeon has to take your Raynauds under consideration. What does he/she say?

can undissolved stiches cause some discomfort numbness, stiffened tip & base of nose after a septoplasty/inferior turb surgery? i'm 14 days post.

Maybe: The incision for the septoplasty is typically made just inside the nostril along the base of the septum.  As this area heals, there is frequently some stiffening and even numbness of the tissue.  The undissolved stiches can make this a bit worse.

Unlikely: Swelling after nasal surgery could last up to a year.

Bump: One possibility would be that your bump is a swollen nasolacrimal duct can be associated with the frequent yawning and open mouth. This changes pressure in your nasal passage way and can air to the structure.

doctor told me i have a tilted bone in my nose due to which sometime i feel my left nostril blocked, for which i have to go through a surgery. if i do not get the surgery done, cause i am afraid. would there be any problem due to this in future?

: I would abide by the advice of the otolaryngologist who examined you. Deformity of the nasal bone often leads to problems like snoring, sinus infections,noisy breathing dry mouth,nose bleeds.
