Diabetes immune syst: It may be that an overactive immune system causes type i diabetes in the first place but that remains to be proven. If the blood sugars are running very high then infections are much more likely and many diabetics will suffer from an increased number of infections. Keep the blood sugars controlled.

In a way: High blood glucose level, above 180 mg/dL interferes with the function of white blood cells and can increase susceptibility to infections. Could it be that you are now controlling your blood sugar better than you used to. Please do keep good control of your blood sugar.

Be careful: Xanax (alprazolam) or any valium like dru(any Valium like drug) has a high potential for addiction problems. Not only their track record for relieving anxiety is iffy. And can actually worsen and anxiety as withdrawal  can happen readily due to their very short half-life. Celexa is way too low at 5 mg per day. Middle range dosages are 15 to 20 mg per day with a maximum of 30 mg/day-even in diabetes.  Take care

Depends-all factors: Type I diabetics can be more fragile when they have any type of infection unfortunately. If you are younger &amp; do not smoke &amp; do not have other chronic problems, your increased risk may be minimal.  Eating balanced diet, keeping glucose controlled, getting adequate exercise (including fresh air outdoors), &amp; adequate sleep all should help protect you from severe consequences, but be very careful !

I would: You can review the recommendations for malaria and other issues at the CDC website (updated continuously). Go to www.cdc.gov/travel/destinations. Malaria is a worrisome problem in the region &amp; generally requires meds started before travel &amp; exposure until well after exposure has stopped.

Antibodies: In type one diabetes, our own body's antibodies go haywire and attack the islts of langerhans of the pancreas. Islet of langerhans cells produce insulin. By the antibodies destroying the panceatic cells, no or little Insulin is produced and diabetes occurrs.

Doubt, but...: we feel strongly, that, at least in some, usingmeds that treat beta cell inflammation will control disease better, decrease risk of progression to insulin therapy in future

It's fine: More intense cardiovascular workout is fine, especially since you are not talking about running a marathon - then i would always use a buddy system and have someone with me. But a 15 minute jog is fine. If you have history of hypoglycemic episodes, just make sure you eat and drink a little bit before your jog and make sure you tuck your glucose tablets in your sock in case you feel shaky.

Life expectancy: There isnt any hard number to answer that question with. If diabetes is poorly controlled then the life expectancy is surely shortened. I have many type 1 diabetic patients who are fine 40-50 years later with minimal issues. Many diabetics die from causes not related to their diabetes. The bottom line is that one should not worry about dying  from type 1 diabetes.
