Pityriasis rosea: We aren't sure what causes pityriasis rosea. Unlike many other skin conditions, it is not an allergic reaction or caused by a fungus or bacteria. It may be caused by a virus. Pityriasis rosea resolves away without treatment. It usually lasts about 6 to 8 weeks.

Dermatologist: If a rash has not resolved, then consider going to a skin specialist such as a dermatologist.  Frequently they can make the diagnosis based on skin examination and pattern of the rash.  Occasionally a skin biopsy is helpful to understand the cause of the rash.

my pityriasis rosea wont go away and i apply nizoral gave by a dermatologist.it left a white patch on my neck how can i make that go away and how long will it keep spreading i have it simce october and its getting worse?

: PR ( if the label is correct) usually disappears over a six month cycle, whether you put creams on it or not. The creams may trigger some skin tonal changes. Keep the area clean and leave it alone and it will resolve.

Tough question: Generally pr is a self-limited condition. Some reports that state improvement with things like Erythromycin may not necessarily be so. Bear with me: if a condition that gets better no matter what you do is treated with any medication then it will still get better. So, did it get better because of the medicine? Tough question. I do recommend you see a dermatologist to help. Sorry to confuse.

Question diagnosis: It is uniformly felt that pityriasis rosea will resolve usually less than 6 to 8 weeks. If your rash is not resolving in over 8 weeks the diagnosis may be wrong. A dermatologist consultation would be appropriate.

: Itching in Pityriasis rosea, could last 2 to 3 months but it varies from person to person. If the diagnosis has been over 4 months, one should go back to the PCP/ Dermatologist for reassessment.
