Weight gain: Weight gain occurs when an individuals intake of calories is &gt;&gt; than the expenditure of calories.  Most people need 22-25 kcal/kg/d to maintain weight (kcal =1 food cal).  If you exercise, you burn more calories & need more fuel; couch potatoes less!  to gain 1 kilo/month you need to intake 500-1000 cal/day in excess of what your body requires.  It can be w/ensure or any other good source of food.

A matter of balance.: To gain a single pound, you must eat 3500 calories more than you use. This would translate to an increase in calories of 500/day to gain one pound in a week! continue to be sure that your extra calories are nutritious, not junk. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, almond butter on whole grain toast, smoothies are other good examples. You probably don't get much sympathy, but it can be hard to gain!

Avoid Ensure...: More calories will help you gain weight but I do NOT advise Ensure, as it has many ingredients from GMO sources  (corn sugars, soy, canola oil) and ingredients like synthetic Vit. E which are best avoided. You can go to a health food store and find a whey protein powder from grass-fed cows and mix it with organic juices. You will get just as many extra calories as Ensure but it will be healthier.

Gaining Weight: Probably 2-3 bottles a day
in addition to your regular 1600 calories a day food intake to maintain 116 pounds at normal daily activities. This will add 500 extra calories per day.

There are 3500 calories in 1 pound of weight.  If you add 500 calories a day in a week you will gain 1 pound of weight. 500 x 7=3500 calories

if someone is trying to gain weight, is there anything wrong/unhealthy with drinking ensure plus everyday as a way to add additional calories?

No real harm: Just consuming the calories, however, is not going to guarantee that the body will add them as lean mass (muscle) .  You should combine a weight lifting or resistance type exercise to your week to encourage the body to use the calories to build muscle.

im 5'3" only weight 91 lbs i cannot gain weight.  i started drinking ensure increased my calorie intake but still nothing. please help!! and yes my  thyroid has been checked multiple times. i would like to gain 15 lbs at least.

Exercise: in addition to increasing the calories u need to increase exercise  to increase muscle mass, weight training of large muscle groups is the key; concentrate on quads, biceps, latisimus;

Probably not best ..: but probably not particularly harmful. There are 220 calories in an 8 oz  Ensure along with 9 grams of protein, a fair share of vitamins &amp; minerals &amp; fairly low in fat. So if you had 2 of these a day, that would be 440 calories in reasonable nutrition. You need to calculate what your reduced daily calorie goal is for weight loss, and make sure the remaining # of calories you eat are healthy.

my appetite has been gone for 2 weeks now. i eat 1 or 2 bites and leave it. i've tried drinking ensure to boost it but it hasn't worked. what should i?

Appetite loss: Loss of appetite may be due to psychological or pathophysiological factors. Is pregnancy a possibility? If not, are there any concerns psychologically or emotionally? If not, and appetite loss(anorexia), and especially if there is weight loss ,your physician should take a thorough history, perform a complete physical examination and order any appropriate tests in order to make a diagnosis.

ive been having a very hard time eating the past 2-3 weeks due to anxiety. ive even began only drinking ensure and blending food. im not sure why im feeling this way or what to do?

: It is not feasible to provide an opinion without additional history, physical examination may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor to see if you may be depressed. Depression is treatable. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Yes: Imo, a multivitamin is worthless but so is ensure if you already eat a balanced diet. Therefore, one is as good or as worthless as the other.
