PMS:  Variable. Premenstrual Menstrual Syndrome begins 5 to 10 days prior to menses in many women.

Confusing: Often the symptoms of pms can mimic those of pregnancy.  Especially if this is your first.

Yes and no: Premenstrual syndrome (pms) implies before menses begins, but similar symptoms may continue into the menstrual period. Pms is a widely used term, but diagnostically it requires that the same constellation of emotional symptoms occur for a specified period of time usually a few days on a regular schedule coinciding with menstruation.

can a woman who has had a hysterectomy still feel pms symptoms the way regular women do?

Sometimes: Pms is often caused by cyclic hormone fluctuations regulated by the ovaries.   Therefore, if you had a hysterectomy but left the ovaries  you can still have some PMS symptoms.  This should not occur if the ovaries were removed.

Irritation: It sounds like fairly typical vaginal irritation.  You may find that ocps or estrogen cream  would help with it as well as your PMS symptoms.  You should see your doctor while you are having symptoms to have them examine you.

Yes: If your ovaries are still there (which is the case in many hysterectomies, especially if you are younger) then the ovaries continue to function normally and any hormone issues, such as pms, will continue after surgery.

i have terrible, debilitating pms every other month that makes it almost impossible for me to function for 4-5 days. on the alternate months, i am absolutely fine and hardly have any symptoms at all. any idea why this might happen alternate months?

Alternating ovaries.: During the menstrual cycle, the ovaries release an egg (ovulation). Each month, the ovaries alternate which ovary will release the egg. It is possible that your PMS symptoms are originating with one of the ovaries but not the other so your symptoms would only occur every other month. 
You should discuss this with your gyn doctor to determine the best treatment! Best of luck to you!

i have irregular cycles i have one every 4 or 5 months no pms symptoms but it last about 3 weeks heavy heavy heavy. what could that be ?

Irregular periods: It probably is suggestive that you are not ovulating every month and that your endometrium eventually becomes so thick that the uterus must expel it giving a hard and heavy period. It probably would be a good idea to be evaluated by a gynecologist, have an ultrasound and perhaps be placed on oral contraceptives to regulate your cycle.

why do a woman urinate so much during pms? is this normal?

Due to diuresis.: Pms sxs can include feeling tearful, irritability, mood swings, anger, depressed mood, change in sex drive  & anxiety.  These may be accompanied by swelling of the breasts (or extremities), weight gain, abdominal bloating, cramps, nausea,  ^ urinary frequency, overeating, headaches (to include migraines), dizziness, fainting & palpitations. Sleep may be disturbed with problems w acne or hives.

can eliminating drinking coffee reduce the chance of pms every month ?
