Long term: Retainers are long term for both invisalign and conventional braces. Talk with your invisalign provider about your particular case.  Many patients need to wear a retainer for several years and some lifelong.

what to do if i have problem with my lower invisalign retainer?

Accepted Answer

It depends: Definitely depends on the problem so it would be best to seek the advice of your orthodontist or dentist. Discomfort is tooth movement; tissue irritation could be cracked retainer, or retainer that is too long and needs adjusting; retainer that doesn't go down may require biting on cotton rolls to seat it. Best is to be looked at, or at least call the office to see if they would like to see you.

i have been wearing my retainers at night for 8 months after invisalign, prior 9 months all day. do i have to wear every night or every other night?

Wear Retainers: It is really important that your dentist check you. 
a. maybe you need adjustment
b maybe you can stop wearing them (yaah!)
c.maybe you can adjust schedule.

The biggest errors occur when retainers are not checked on a regular schedule.

i'm using retainers now. if i tell invisalign to make my contacts tighter with a new pair of retainers and only like bottom tray, do i only use bottom?

Both: It's because if you don't wear one, your teeth will start moving right back to where they were. Ask your orthodontist for mre information.

Yes You Can: Because Perio Protect is only used a few minutes a day, you can remove the Invisalign aligner and place the Perio Protect tray.

how long should i change retainers after invisalign? i have 2 retainers. i was thinking every 3 months? and than buy a new set of retainers?

3 to 6 months: But ask your treating dentist or orthodontist what their recommendation is, since the above time frame is a general rule.

i was wondering is it ok to use denture cleaner on invisalign retainers?

Yes (in general): Your dentist should provide home care instructions, but in general denture cleaning tablets are ok for these type of retainers.  There are a number of "brands" of invisialign type retainers so you should really check with your dentist.  Never soak it in mouthwash--the alchohol in most mouthwashes will ruin it.

once molars are intruded after invisalign, can they naturally extrude over time by not wearing the retainers?

Maybe: Sounds like maybe your bite maybe a little off. Normally after most orthodontic treatment there needs to be an accusal (bite) adjustment to correct some of the premature contact areas. Naturally teeth extrude to meet the opposing dentition but You need to see the orthodontist or the treating Doctor to double check your bite. Hope that helps.

i'm almost done w/ invisalign. after this, dentist said i choose a permanent or overnight retainer. what are pros/cons of each & any recommendations?

Either will do: Permanent - no discipline but difficult to keep teeth really clean.

Overnight-removable -you are responsible to wear it and not lose it.

No: Wearing a retainer for less than eight hours will have no impact on your hygiene visit.
