Long term: Retainers are long term for both invisalign and conventional braces. Talk with your invisalign provider about your particular case. Many patients need to wear a retainer for several years and some lifelong.

Ask the orthodontist: There is no magic answer to your question as it depends on your case. We've had patients wearing invisalign for only 3-4 months and others for 2 years. Variance is significant depending on your case. Ask your orthodontist-- they have developed the treatment plan for you. Once treatment is done, retainers are worn for life (or at least a really, really long time).

How long: How long do you want to have "straight" teeth? As clear aligners less efficient at tooth root alignment, stabilization is even more critical. We have patients wear retainers 24/7 for a full year, then every night after that for the next 250 years. Don't retain and teeth will wander, guaranteed.
