That's long enough: Depending on how bad the infection and inflammation in one's throat is, 1-2 weeks may be needed to heal back to normal after treating strep throat. Strep throat is not resistant to penicillin or amoxicillin, so that treatment almost always works. For a few patients, bacteria remain and symptoms return (a throat swab strep test can confirm it), and they may need another course of antibiotics.

Strep throat: Classically strep throat does not cause a cough. It's possible you have/ had a viral upper respiratory infection. These usually resolve within 1- 2 weeks.

Possibly yeast: If you did a course of antibiotics you may have now developed a yeast infection in your mouth. It would not likely have caused a true growth but you may have inflammation of some of the taste buds which can appear as a growth. You need to see your medical provider to confirm the diagnosis and get a prescription for an antifungal mouth rinse.

Strep: You may have a sinus problem that is causing bloody mucus, headaches and formation of tonsillar stones.Consult your doctor or an ear nose and throat specialist for help

i am being treated for strep throat with azithromycin. i close my eyes to sleep i am awaken by choking or no air.what can i do to get some sleep?

May need to see doc: Sorry to hear this! Unfortunately, you will not sleep well until it passes. Make sure ou keep hydrated and take a mixture of Tylenol, an antihistamine and a decongestant. Sleep on your side or stomache if you can. See a doctor if the chocking is alarming you.

Untreated strep: Untreated strep throat poses several complications. Locally - peritonsillar abscess, ear infection, sinusitis, brain abscess and meningiits. Strep bacteria can gain access into the blood stream and cause infection of internal lining of the heart, bone,  and other organs. Autoimmune inflammation can cause rheumatic fever, glomerulonephritis (kidneys, ) etc.

Strep complications: Complications can include infection of middle ear, sinuses, tonsils, skin & blood; scarlet fever, inflammation of the kidney (glomerulonephritis) & eventually rheumatic fever. Strep throat requires antibiotic treatment.
