is laser teeth whitening something you only want to do once? i've read that with mutiple laser teeth whitening treatments, your teeth can sometimes become sensitive. is it better then to have this procedure performed once, then use other whitening methods

Scientific : Scientific studies done to date show that carbamide peroxide, the whitening agent, has not long term negative effects on your teeth or gums.  However, you cannot rule out short term sensativity or gum irritation. 
 
How fast the procedure whitens has to do with the strength of the whitening agents. There seems to be a contention between the chemical strength and sensativity.  Mostly the sensativity and irritation is temporary.

isn't hydrogen peroxide used in teeth whitening treatments?if so,is it true that it can erode the tooth enamel over time?in that case what is the percentage of hydrogen peroxide that can cause it?what about carbamide peroxide?

: Regardless of which peroxide is in the gel, the concentration is low enough to help prevent damage to your teeth and gingiva as long as it is used according to directions and not overused. People often don't follow the directions and that's when damage can occur.

No: A fairly recent study showed that lasers do no better job of whitening teeth than other methods.

Sorry, no: You will need to spend money on some type of whitening product, even if it is just whitening toothpaste for a few dollars. Brushing your teeth a lot does not whiten them. Intrinsic stains (coffee, tea, etc) cannot be brushed out.

Not sure: I'm not sure your hypothesis is correct. Have not see this information in well refereed dental journals. I can tell you that OtC whitening systems are not particularly effective. See your Dentist first for a professional cleaning, then follow his/her advice as to the most effective and long lasting treatment.

Change toothpaste: You may have some adverse reaction to certain ingredient in that whitening tooth paste.  Just use the regular toothpaste since they are better and cheaper anyway.  Whitening toothpaste may contain abrasives that wear down your enamel.

Power strips: I like the new sheer white.  Best results if teeth are clean to start.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Start w a professional cleaning.  Then have Dentist do in-office or custom tray whitening system for you.  OTC products can then be used to help maintain result.  Don't smoke.  Avoid acidic pigmented foods (coffee, tea, red wine, tomato sauce mustard, etc).  Expect to have to redo every 3-5 years.

Many benefits: The most preferred method of whitening among patients is in-office whitening. Of course, there are the esthetic benefits. The whitening solution has also been proven to kill the bacteria that cause gum disease as well as tooth decay.

Get some help, but-: For predictable and quick and 'stronger' results, see a Dentist. BUT if you wish to do this independently. try 'Crest Whitestrips' ...they give fair results, but they are tricky and technique-sensitive !
