FLuids: Flat lemonade, juice 1:5 diluted with water, sports drinks or commercial electrolyte solutions from your pharmacy can all be helpful fluids to take in this circumstance.  For babies breastmilk or formula is also very good.

Viral illness: A tincture of time is a great remedy for most self-limited viral illnesses. Keep yourself comformtable, Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain, and diet as tolerated. If nausea is a problem and vomiting persistent, there are prescription medications to control that. Hope you are feeling better soon.

To decrease GI: upset you can nibble on crystalized ginger or make your self a hot ginger tea with  fresh organic ginger.

Bland diet...: Once your symptoms subside and you are no longer having nausea, you should begin with a very bland diet. There is a diet called the BRAT diet-it stands for bananas, rice, applesauce and tea. If you tolerate bland foods like that, you can gradually add more foods. But, if you develop nausea while advancing your diet, just go back to the more bland foods or even just liquids if you vomit.Feel better

Gastroenteritis: Yes, if he wants to get give bland food, such as bananas, rice, applesauce,toast,plain pasta, broiled/grilled chicken. Avoid dairy and juice. Drinking and staying hydrated is way more important than eating which will come around once feeling better. if not tolerating fluids and vomiting then needs to be evaluated for dehydration and possible need for Iv fluids.

Be careful: If you are unable to keep anything down and are not urinating, your urine is extremely dark and minimal in volume, you feel light-headed when standing up, your mouth is dry or other mucous membranes are dry, see a doctor.  You may need intravenous fluids or antinauseants that will allow you to drink things like gatorade or other fluids with electrolytes.

ive lost 4-5 pounds in a few days from the stomach flu. is this normal? i was 158 and now i am at 153.4. i am eating again and drinking gatorade.

Mild dehydration: You seem to be recovering from so called stomach virus.  Taking enough balanced fluid such as gatorade is all you need to do.
