The best!: Walking is the exercise! fish swim, birds fly, land-based mammals walk. Except for last 50 years, we spent most of our time standing/walking. About 10,000: Studies have suggested that about 10,000 steps a day is good for weight control. Staying active also helps prevent and control diabetes &amp; heart disease &amp; nurtures mental health. Good nutrition which consists primarily of fish, chicken, veggies &amp; fruit is also important for good overall health. Avoidance of smoking, too much alcohol &amp; illicit drugs is also important. Yes: A brisk walk of 45 -60 minutes daily can help a person reduce weight, prevent heart disease, stroke, some cancers, obesity related medical problems, depression, hypertension and more.  If you are able, you should be walking.

Most likely yes.: I'd change routes, maybe use 2-3 lb hand weights.  But this would be adequate for most people. Just keep it up, even on rainy days!

Exercise: Both are good ways to exercise.  It depends a little as to your height, weight, condition of your joints, and your current physical health.  I generally recommend to patients to start with a gentle exercise program, gradually building over time. For walking, find a comfortable route, or treadmill, proper shoes, start slow in time and speed. Gradually advance. Same with biking. Don't rush to be fit.

WALKING VS EXERCISIN: Depends on the effort and the time you spend walking. I walk a lot in my office and seldom sit all day. Can't loose an ounce and have sore legs and feet at the end of the day!
unless i walk at at least 20 min a mile, i can't keep my weight down.
Walking is better than not walking though.

Yes: Any movement is good movement. If you can push the walks to 30 minutes, then even better!

Yes: No one knows what amount of exercise is optimal, but the american heart association recommends all adults from 18 to 65 exercise at least 30 min. At least 5 days a week to lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Walking is a good form of exercise, esp. If done at a quick pace. Cardio Mix: The amount of exercise required varies from person to person. If you have adipose tissue to lose (not everyone does), then consider an increase in cardio and a balanced diet. However, do not always do the same exercise or you will increase your risks for stress injuries. Mix things up with walking, running, biking, swimming, or circuit training. Ultimately you need to burn more than you consume.
