Common complication: The most common complication after wisdom tooth extraction is trismus, or tightness in the jaw muscles.  .  This tightness can last several days to two weeks.  Three things will help loosen up the jaw muscles as quickly as possible: heat, stretching, and massage.

hi. been having difficulty breathing and irregular heartbeat the past 3 weeks. the breathing is worse if i lay down. it started after a tooth extraction 3 weeks ago (they had to remove some of my gums that was infected around the tooth). any tips?

: Your symptoms are serious and it those symptoms are related to the tooth extraction, acute endocarditis (heart valve infection) and heart failure need to be ruled out. However, a significant pulmonary infection can also cause those symptoms but fever and cough are also present. You need to go to ER right away.

what kind of antibiotic i have to use for my problem? my temperature is very high after tooth extraction.

Penicillin: Penicillins, such as pen kvm, amoxicillin.Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) are good.
Cephalosporins such as keflex, ceclore  are also good.
For  people allergic to those above, cleomycin is the antibiotic of choice.

More info needed...: Extraction and filling same arch, same side? Was the filling deep? Did you have an infection? Simple or complex extraction? Answers to these questions would go a long way in answering yours. Please see your treating dentist for a follow-up visit.

Could be: But most likely it is the edge of the socket where the tooth was extracted. Let your dentist take a look and you will know for sure.

Call your dentist or surgeon ASAP for an examination.

Oral Surgeon: Your own dentist or Oral Surgeon needs to evaluate this and see whether any other treatment is indicated. Sometimes it takes awhile, even two weeks or more for complete elimination of radiating or referred pain following a surgical procedure.  Contact your own dentist to discuss.

see dentist : Could be root piece remaining or just the sharp bony spicule..Your dentist can take xray and eval and treat the same..

Tooth extraction: I usually use an elevator and try to cause the least trauma so there is less post-op pain. Sometimes its nes. To section a tooth or use forcepts. It should be painless.  You may feels a lot of pressure and some crackling sounds are normal. We provide headphones to watch tv during the procedure to remove the sound.
