Possibly an allergy: Could be an allergic reaction or dermatitis to shoe material  or dye in sock and shoes. Do you have a history of eczema or psoriasis?  If so, those signs could be the beginnings of a  flare up/episode. Also, have you been alking in brush or grassy ar eas?

Throbbing ankle pain: Have you ever had trauma to your ankle? It is possible the you may have an aneurism in your ankle. It heeds to be checked by vascular surgeon perhaps.

Elevate: It is common to have such a reaction as part of a sting. It does not necessarily mean an infection or a severe allergy, as local reactions can look impressive.If it is recent, applying ice can help reduce swelling. Elevating the leg above the heart also helps with swelling.If this is happening more than 2-3 days, then perhaps an infection is present.More common with yellowjackets than wasps.

Urgent care: Your wound is infected and it has to be cleaned and dressed. You will also need a course of antibiotics. Please see an urgent care center. Keep the wound clean and dry using an antiseptic liquid soap, use a topical antibiotic ointment three times daily, until seen.

That's a long time: Not to have a diagnosis. General rule of thumb is that if you try a treatment and it doesn't work, you can try another or you might of had the wrong diagnosis. With a rash, a simple biopsy of the tissue will help arrive at the correct diagnosis.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. What you described suggests a problem with blood circulation in that toe. It would be prudent to consult a doctor for evaluation and treatment.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

my feet are red & extremely dry on the soles only.  on the sole of my right foot the redness has darker colored red dots. they do burn & itch at times. i do keep lotion on them and that doesn't do much for the right foot.  any suggestion?

: Please see a dermatologist (skin doctor) so that you can be properly diagnosed and treated. You may need a different lotion or cream, possibly by prescription. This could be a type of eczema, or a fungal infection, or a result of an underlying condition, if you have any.

?venous stasis: Some people develop increased venous pressure in their legs. The veins have valves, and if they collapse then the pressure in the veins increase, and cause pressure and swelling in the lower legs. This can cause redness and pigmentation of the lower legs, especially over the medial ankle. Try elevating his legs for 15-20 mins when he gets home. Discuss with his doctor. Good luck.
