NO, probably NOT!: Most beast cysts are benign. 
BIRAD 3 means it is probably benign but there is a small (about 2%) chance it is cancerous. It is usually advised to recheck in 6 months.

i have fibrocyctic breast beign cysts all my life can they turn into cancer? i get mammograms every year.

No: Fibrocystic change doesn't increase your risk. If you examine the breast closely, somewhere between 99% and 101% of women have these changes at some time. There are some other proliferative changes that put you at some extra risk, but what you're describing isn't worrisome. I hope you also do self-exam. Best wishes.

Reasonable: In women with increased risk because of maternal history of breast cancer mammography starting no later than ten years prior to the age of of the mother at the time of discovery of breast cancer (but not earlier than age 25 and not later than age 40) is advised. Bottom line, starting now with annual mammograms is a very reasonable approach.

No not really: CYSTS ARE BENIGN. THEY AREA COMMON AND QUITE HARMLESS. BREASTS NEED TO BE CHECKED WITH EITHER MAMMOGRAM OR ULTRASOUND. THAT IS WHY YOUR DOCTOR HAS ADVISED YOU TO DO AN ULTRASOUND. SO GO AHEAD WITHOUT ANY WORRY.

: A cyst can be aspirated and the fluid should be submitted for cytological examination to rule out cancer. Cysts in the breast are generally not cancer.

Hi, : Hi, that is a great question. First off, breast cysts are very common (especially in middle aged women â€” 40â€™s, 50â€™s & 60â€™s).  The milk glands in the breast can enlarge over time and develop into a cyst. There can be one cyst or a number of cysts. The cyst can be tiny or large.  Usually, the major source of concern would be if there was a large cyst that was causing the woman physical discomfort. 
  Masses that are seen on a mammogram that are suggestive of breast cancer often are calcified and usually are solid. The ultrasound is done to ensure that the cyst only contains fluid and no other materials. Unless the cysts contained materials other than fluids, a biopsy is normally not necessary.  If the cyst is causing discomfort there is an option for aspiration.

i am a single mom. i felt a big mass in my breast. i got a mammogram done which showed a cyst. i wanted it drained for cancer cell evaluation? should i go for it?

OK to Drain, but...: ...Not for cancer evaluation.  Breast cysts are benign fluid-filled lumps that can appear "overnight" and, when large, can cause quite a bit of pain.  While it is not necessary to biopsy these, many women prefer to have these aspirated due to the pain that they can cause.  Ironically, we do not routinely send this fluid for evaluation (unless bloody) since they are, by definition, benign.

They may: But always clarified by ultrasound.  Wouldn't it be great if they started with circular array, non-compession, prone u/s to start? Under development if the big companies do not kill it.

Any radiation can.: Radiation exposure is a known risk factors for many cancers, including breast cancer.  However, the radiation dose of a mammogram is so low that the benefit of mammography--finding cancers early--far outweighs the risks.

It's actually: A poor test with too many false positives (finds things that are not cancer) and false negatives (fails to find things that are due to dense breasts, small size) once it finds something, the follow up is u/s to guide biopsy, then MRI to look for other lesions...A slow, inaccurate, costly process begging to be improved.
