i have morton's toe. 4 days ago i noticed a pea sized cyst just under the big toe joint, where my condition puts pressure near the instep on that joint. nsaids didn't seem to help, warm comp did. i've read synovial react to nsaid. is this ganglion?

: Could be a ganglion which is a synovial cyst arising from either a joint, due to capsular defect or a tendon. You should see a podiatrist if it is symptomatic.

See a podiatrist: Are you thinking a cyst on the big toe is malignant or did the doctor biopsy it and tell you that?  You cannot determine if it is malignant solely by looks.  You really need to go to a podiatrist to have the foot examined and to be given your options for treatment.

Unlikely: Even large ovarian tumors usually only cause abdomino -pelvic pain and maybe some him and back discomfort.  Would be looking more for local problems with the toes or maybe spinal disc changes.

See details: The swelling you describe could be gout but also could be several other issues. Have the feet and knee evaluated by a rheumatologist or orthopedist.

Possibly: It is possible, but unlikely 35yrs after surgery if symptoms are new.   Best way to find out is to see your PCP or a Podiatrist for an examination and possibly diagnostic tests.  Take Care!

In 6 wks: Most of the time healing will be complete in  3wks , in clean uninfected surgery any where in the body , foot surgery needs additional time should be able to do all activities in 6wks , speak to your surgeon

The most likely theory involves a flaw in the joint capsule or tendon covering (sheath) that allows the joint tissue to bulge out.

You can try : Having it drained by a doctor the cyst) they do have a propensity to come back as they usually arise from a tendon sheath or the joint and open surgery may be necessary. With regards to a bunion, that would depend on if you have pain to decide what to do with it..,,
