Possibly: It is possible, but unlikely 35yrs after surgery if symptoms are new. Best way to find out is to see your PCP or a Podiatrist for an examination and possibly diagnostic tests. Take Care!

Probably: I wonder if you did not in fact have an excision of a martins neuroma back then. This is a neuroma of the digital nerve to the tow and surgery involves resecting the nerve, which usually does leave one side of the toe numb. In either case, it is safe to say that if your toe was numb after surgery, that there was probably some form of injury, whether it was surgically intended or not.
