i have been diagnosed with a cyst on my lower lumbar/thoracic spine. its hitting nerves in my lower back. do i need to worry about getting surgery?

Maybe: There are different kinds of "cysts" but the most common "cyst" in the lumbar spine that causes is a pinched nerve is a synovial cyst.  This is and inflammatory cyst that causes symptoms of a pinched nerve.  Surgery is sometimes indicated for large, painful cysts that are unresponsive to nonsurgical treatments like pt and injections.

See a neurosurgeon: It is unlikely that the previous accident has caused your spinal problem.
You need further evaluation which can be done either by a neurosurgeon or by an orthopedic doctor.

These typically do: Not cause any symptoms and are usually an incidental finding on a mri.  Many times, certain findings are found on a mrai that have no bearing on why the imaging study was ordered in the first place.

Cyst where? : On ur spine can mean a benign bone cyst, in that case there's no reason not 2 have them. On ur spinal cord is a different situation all together ; would need looking into b 4 shots. If u r uncomfortable with ur md get a second opinion.

No real treatment,: Usually are asymptomatic and do not require any intervention. If exert effect on spinal nerve, then surgical drainage.

Ultrasound good  PT: Ultrasound is very frequently used for physical therapy and should not affect the cyst.

i have a rare arachnoid cyst possible tumor in my spine in the thoracic. ive been on oxycodone since i was 19 so it barely touches me. even the fentynal 50mg barely touched my pain. i'm so lost on what to do nothing helps my pain!! any advice?

: You describe likely medication tolerance and probable dependence with  little benefit at this point.  First, get updated neurosurgical consult, and if surgery is an option, consider this.  Otherwise, consult pain management specialist.  Perhaps both at this point.

Incorrect term: The epiphysis refers to the area of bones above the growth plate and closer to the end of the bone.  An apohysitis refers to an inflammation and injury of the growth plate.  Apophysitis in the thoracic spine would be a condition in children with open growth plates (still growing.)  it would involve an injury to the growth plate.

Thoracic spine: This may be caused from a pinched nerve in the t spine which may cause  burning pain. Or, it may also be unrelated to the spine. A thorough work up, including exam, imaging and review of your entire history is critical to get down to the bottom of the root cause. You should speak to your regular doc first - he/she should begin the work up. A disc herniation pinching the nerve should be ruled out.
