Yes: Metabolic syndrome is a name for a group of risk factors that occur together and increase the risk for coronary artery disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.Due to its link to obesity and Insulin resistance, women with pcos are at an increased risk for this cluster of conditions (including diabetes).

No: There is a link between type 2 dm and pcos --insulin resistance , but no link between type 1 and pcos.

PCOS/oral bcp: With PCOS, ovaries are not working normally.  Oral bcp can eliminate cyst formation in the ovaries, and lessen the chance of endometrial (uterine) hyperplasia and later onset of uterine carcinoma.  Not sure what you mean about "take in controlled diabetes" , but excess weight in diabetes can contribute to PCOS, so it should be tightly controlled with respect to blood sugar variations.

Meformin: Some patient with pcos have Insulin resistance relating to higher Insulin levels.  The medications for diabetes will lower glucose and Insulin levels.  This can improve their chances of ovulating spontaneously or with medications.

Yes: Pcos is an underlying hormone problem.  If you have it, you should see your gyn for labs, exam, and ultrasound to evaluate and come up with a plan for treatment.

PCOS vs T2DM: Very few people w/diabetes have polycystic ovarian syndrome. However, many if not most w/PCOS, also have insulin resistance, if not outright diabetes.

is it crucial to fast before an a1c diabetes test? i didnt fast. i got there they told me it was fine and fasting wasnt needed for any of the tests i did. now my pcp is saying one of the 3 reasons why it may be pcos is my a1c, just want to be sure?

: Elevated "A1C" may represent increased risk of diabetes (type 2), which can affect regularity of menstruation (lack of ovulation) and produce "PCOS".  Consult a GYN physician for guidance, as PCOS can have other consequences , and use of oral bcp's will obviate these effects.

can excessive carb intake cause insulin resistance / diabetes if not overweight but carry quite a bit of weight around stomach? not sure whether its fat or bloating as have pcos and constipation. can u hv chronic insulin resistance without diabetes?

: Eating excessive carbohydrate is a known risk factor for diabetes mellitus (DM) because of pancreatic fatigue more than insulin resistance to start with. Tummy fat is completely different from abdominal bloating. For two persons with the same BMI, one has bigger waist size is at more risk for DM and cardiovascular disease. There is a saying "longer the waist line, shorter your life line".
