Crack will get worse: No, your cracked tooth can only get worse not better. If you have symptoms your choices are a crown, crown/root canal, or removal. The recommended treatment depends on how severe the crack is.

Nerve irritation: It is possible that there is swelling and inflammation that is causing pressure on a nerve causing the symptoms.  You should see your doctor to make sure there is no abscess starting.

can an x-ray show a cracked tooth below the gum line? the tooth hurts when i push on it but x-rays show a healthy tooth!

Not always: Radiographs don't reveal everything.. cracks are very difficult to detect. Did your dentist check to see if the tooth was vital (alive)? The nerve could have recently died, spilling toxins into the bone surrounding the tooth, thus the pain when you press on it. No sensitivity to cold or sweets further confirms this. Have your dentist refer you to an endodontist if s/he cannot find out the cause.

my mom moved from out of state. no  medical care set up yet. she has a cracked tooth, gum infection over  weekend. she has old rx kflex will this help?

Keflex (cephalexin): isn't my first choice for treating gum infections.  Even tho "no medical care set up yet", if she has health insurance, she can go to any local clinic or urgent care center for care. It can be serious: See the dentist that placed your temporary filling.  One of the reasons to place a tempory filling is to evaluate the health of the nerve of the tooth.  Your symptoms indicate the tooth is not healthy and  further assessment is needed to determine the best treatment at this point. You could be looking at root canal, crown or possible extraction.  See your dentist ASAP.

See an Endodontist: A crack in a tooth is a pathway for bacteria to infect the root canal system.  If this exists and your dentist put a crown over it the pathway for drainage has been closed and is trying to find a new way out.  The swelling and pain may represent that process. The swollen gland may also represent a current infection. Call your local endodontist for an exam to identify the problem.

: An abscess due to tooth infection in the same area may occur but a reactive lymph node is much more common. You will be much sicker, more pain and other constituent symptoms such as pain, high fever and chill if you have a tooth abscess which extends to the submandibular area.

Not normal: Having a your gums feel squishy is a sign that something is not right. The tooth may have necrotic pulp and is beginning to abscess, or there may be something under the gums. If you are in a temporary crown there may be temporary cement or retraction cord left under your gums. It would be a good idea to go back to your dentist and have him/her check the situation.

Depend: A crack tooth can only be saved if the crack does not extend longitudinally down the root.  As long as the crack is somewhat horizontal, or the extend of the crack does not extend past the crown margin, a root canal, build up, and a crown can be made to encapsulate the crack and provide normal function.
