Uncommon: It is uncommon for gout to present in children.  Gout is caused by high uric acid levels in the blood.  Children with gout typically have an underlying disease that affects uric acid metabolism.  There is a rare metabolic disease called lesch-nyhan that can cause gout.  Some kidney diseases can be associated with high uric acid levels and cause gout.

Vegetarian diet: Gout is associated with the bodies inability to eliminate uric acid. Foods high in purines interfere with this process. Foods to limit are meat, shell fish , high fatty foods and alcohol especially beer.

Yes.: Apart from not drinking, he should be on Allopurinol (generic) or uloric. In addition, he should have Colchicine available.  If he is not on a uric acid lowering agent, he is not being treated correctly!

Anxiety does not: Cause gout but you may be anxious and also have gout.  Please let your doc examine you and treat you.  If you have an anxiety disorder a mental health professional can teach  you strategies to cope.  Peace and good health.

Yes: Avocados actually are a good source of potassium which may help prevent flares of gout when eaten in moderation.  No problem with eating avocados--these shouldn't cause gout to flare. Gout is high uric : acid in your body that deposits in a joint causing inflammation. You either underexcrete or overproduce uric acid depending on your particular case. Alcohol is the chief offended but many foods rich in purine are culprits. Cheese and organ meats are the most common. The big toe is the most common joint affected. See a doctor to figure out if a prescription agent is warranted. cherry juice can help

Could you suggest: Probably best to see a good nutritionist. Most hospitals provide this service., maybe for a nominal fee, money well spend. In general for diabetes stay away from "white" foods that are simple carbohydrates. Educate yourself on foods with low glycemic index that are good for diabetics , stay away from high glycemic . For gout, eliminate shrimp/ lobster/ red meat/beans/asparagus . See nutritionist.

Where: The back is not a common site of gout flare up. Typically if you take Colchicine for gout it should get better. If it does not we often look for other causes.

Arthritis/Uric Acid: Gout is an inborn error of metabolism where uric acid (product of breakdown of proteins) is either over produced or under excreted by the body.  When the level is high enough, the uric acid precipitates out of the body fluids and forms crystals of ua .  This ususally occurs in the joints and is like ground glass in a joint.  The body reacts, swells, hurts and miserable.  There is treatment.
