Uncommon: It is uncommon for gout to present in children. Gout is caused by high uric acid levels in the blood. Children with gout typically have an underlying disease that affects uric acid metabolism. There is a rare metabolic disease called lesch-nyhan that can cause gout. Some kidney diseases can be associated with high uric acid levels and cause gout.

No: Gout is not a typical disease found in children as uric acid levels rarely rise before puberty. It takes years for uric acid overload to manifest itself as gout. There are a few rare exceptions such as a metabolic condition known as Lesch-Nyhan syndrome in which uric acid levels rise during childhood.
