Depends on age: In children a cough at night may be an indication of chronic adenoiditis; possibly even sinusitis. In an adult i would lean more towards acid reflux as a cause.

Doctor can evaluate: A person with cough and congestion, not better on Amoxicillin and zithromax z-pack, can be re-evaluated by a doctor. Possible problems include: viral illness (not bacterial), real influenza (the flu), heart disease, pneumonia, or other bacterial infection needing antibiotics by I.V. Or injection, etc... The doctor may order x-rays of the chest, neck, sinuses, etc... Blood tests may be needed, too.

my two yr old has had cough for two weeks and for last 3 days had mild diarrhoea, vomiting and cough getting worse. going to dr 2morow. what is wrong

Viral illness: 2 years old child with cough for 2 weeks also vomiting and diarrhea and no fever. This points to a viral  bronchiolitis which typically begins with URI symtoms and then lower tract sign and symtoms.  Your child should be rehydrated immediately by small amount of pedialyte repeatedly. Call his doctor or take him to ER if he shows sign of dehydration (fast heart rate, dry mucosa, dry diaper etc...)

my 4yr old is coughing and vomiting. taking coryx and dynalex 5mls 3x but cough's getting worse esp @ nite. temp keeps fluctuating & eyes are watery.

Alternative advice : The fever and temp fluctuations with vomiting are more likely caused by a viral infection than allergy. Advice to stay home is good, but call your doctor for further advice if the child’s symptoms get worse or if there is no gradual improvement over the next couple of days.

persistent dry cough since dec 2019 without fever. cough getting worse (no fever). i have coughing spells w very little discharge. there is at times a rattle in my throat & chest feels weird. allergy meds & rx antacids do not help. what's wrong w me?

Workup needed: Symptoms are of concern and need further assessment as a variety of conditions may contribute to such symptoms. Imaging and/ or upper endoscopy as well as a thorough ENT exam will be needed. From simple things such as a foreign body to much more complex structural and/or functional abnormalities affecting trachea or esophagus anything is possible. Start with your primary doc who can coordinate.

Cough: It is common for upper respiratory symptoms to get worst before better but if cough continuously gets worst, does not improve, has associated difficulty breathing, fever, not eating well, not sleeping well from cough then needs to seen by his/ her physician.

Possibilities...: Possible causes of a cough that worsens when you lie down include gerd or post-nasal drip or even a combination of factors. Bronchospasm is another cause of chronic cough. These all have different treatments so see your doctor so your cough can be diagnosed and then treated.

Mono: You could be developing superimposed bacterial infection as well since you have lowered immunity status with mono. See your pcp.

Possibly: Cough is one of several disabling symptoms in emphysema but is not usually life threatening. A number of remedies are available.
