Cancer: There is very little chance of any kind of tumor and it would certainly show if present. Costochondritis is very common and easy to treat. Good Luck

Costochondritis: Swelling from costochondritis is always painful. But swelling from tietze's syndrome is painless. Probably you have tietze's syndrome . Discuss with your physician.

Something else: Costochondritis is usually not associated with a palpable swelling.  Could be some type of pulled muscle.

: The origin points towards musculoskeletal (when bending) and in such cases work up should include spine as pain is many times radiated along the ribs. Lung pathology, including effusions may cause similar symptoms as well. Otherwise good to know that heart is strong and is not the reason for the symptoms.

sports injury, likely costochondritis with separated false rib cartilage slipped up behind another rib. visible chest wall bump, pain at movement. what can i do to get the cartilage back in its proper place? i don't want, and can't afford, surgery?

: difficult to diagnose without imaging. You can guess at the injury, or have a professional look at it and palpate it. surgery may not be needed, but won't know until you get a thorough exam. Self treating by trying to move cartilage or bone can result in a worse injury and long term problems.

COSTOCHONDRITIS IS: Caused by virus mostly. As a part of viral illness, there can be lymph node enlargement at different parts of the body. We have groups of lymph nodes allover our body, like check points to catch bacteria/viruses, they get swollen, kills the germs and over time comes back to their normal small, non-palpable size. Unless you have any other issues (e.g. Unprotected sex/std), you will be ok.

See physician today: Without knowing more detail, if your daughter seems to be having trouble breathing she should be examined as soon as possible. Costochondritis would not cause any of her symptoms

See a cardiologist: Your symptoms are much more than explained by costochondritis. You need to get a bit detailed evaluation by a cardiologist before dismissing it as mere costochondritis.  Hope that you find answers to your problems soon.

Yes: Costochondritis can cause rib pain.  Typically, the pain associated is worse with breathing, particularly deep breaths.  You can have sore spots on the ribs as well, sometimes sharp stabbing pains.  Sometimes can feel as if someone is sitting on your chest.  If there is any concern for a heart attack, you should be evaluated right away.
