Progesterone: A corpus luteum cyst is where the egg emerged from the ovary. This cyst turns into a little "hormone factory", producing lots of the hormone Progesterone in the early part of a pregnancy.  By about 10 weeks of pregnancy the placenta has become established and takes over making the Progesterone that an early pregnancy needs.

Hormone: The corpus leuteum cyst is the site where you ovulated from and the cyst that forms afterward in that spot in the ovary produces hcg, one of the main hormones of pregnancy that supports the embryo until the placenta is big enough to do so, around 7-8 weeks.  The corpus leuteum takes awhile to dissolve, sometime in 2nd trimester.

Depends: The corpus luteum produces Progesterone which "supports" the lining of the uterus during an early pregnancy.  We now know that the placenta can pretty much "take over" the function of the corpus luteum earlier than was thought.  A simple serum Progesterone test can tell.  If the result is 25 or greater, there should be no problem.  But this depends on the rest of your history.

Variable: Corpus luteum cyst usually resolves with your period in 2 to 3 weeks. However, in some women it can last as long as 6 months or longer and may even grow in size and cause pain or bleeding and require surgery. Complicated!: The corpus luteum secretes progesterone which prepares the lining of the uterus for implantation and supports the first trimester of pregnancy.  HCG supports the corpus luteum, helps protect the fetus from attack by the mother's immune system and promotes growth of placental blood vessels into the uterus. The Placenta!: The corpus luteum supports the lining of the uterus during the first 8-10 weeks of pregnancy by producing large quantities of Progesterone.  As the placenta enlarges, it takes over the production of Progesterone so that the corpus luteum is no longer needed and can go away.  Best wishes!

No: After a follicle releases its egg from the ovary, its remains &amp; becomes a corpus luteum producing progesterone. If the egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum decays, breaks  down &amp; disappears. If instead it fills with fluid or blood, then you have a corpus luteum cyst. So the cyst and pregnancy do not cooexist, unless you're talking about pregnancy with a preexisting cyst. Hope that helps.

Pregnancy can happen only if there is ovum and sperm.

What test: Corpus luteum would not result in a positive pregnancy test. You may consider a blood test for HCG, if the results of urine test are not consistent with clinical findings.
