i know that constipation could lead to hemorrhoids. but i've heard that laxatives could cause hemorrhoids too. any thoughts?

Fiber: Fiber, especially in fruits and vegetables can ease constipation without causing hemorrhoids. Stool softeners like fiber are safe to use regularly. Laxatives should be used sparingly.

hi doctors! i had a colonoscopy which thank god showed only diverticulosis and internal hemorrhoids. i seem to get constipation ""once in a while."" what would you suggest as a good laxative to ""keep around the house"" if the constipation resurfaces?

very good morning doctors!! what is best the best laxative among dulcolax tablets, senekot, colace, miralax for recurrent constipation? very recent colonoscopy (october 2020) overall normal except for diverticulosis and internal hemorrhoids?

Depends: Dulcolax and Senekot are propulsant laxatives that cause muscle activity to ‘squeeze’ stools toward the anus, while miralax draws water into the bowel to,force evacuation and colace  slick coats the stool to make it easier to pass. My preference is miralax because it has no lasting effect and action can be controlled with dose. But I really prefer diet with adequate fiber and liquids for daily BMs

Change your diet: you need to change your life style and your diet and keep your bowels regular and soft with the least use of laxative, you need to have a colonoscopy if you did not have one in the last five years, you need to eat more fruits and vegetables and eat more fibers and hydrate yourself real well, slow down on red meat and greasy food, exercise, use sitz bath and OTC medicine for hemorrhoid

Avoid constipation: Hemorrhoids are exacerbated by constipation and the "pushing" necessary.  Foods high in fat tend to constipate you.  Foods high in fiber favor looser stools.  Fruits vegetable, whole grains are excellent sources of fiber.  Also, fiber only works if u are well hydrated.  Drink plenty of fluids to keep stools soft.  Most fissures will heal with a topical cream./  if not, surgery can help.  See a doc.

You : You need to tell your parents or guardian what is going on. A visit to your doctor is needed. You will likely be referred to a GI (gastrointestinal) doctor. You could be dealing with a hemorrhoid that has an active bleeding blood vessel inside it, or many other rectal lesions that could be causing bleeding etc. A minor surgery may be in order. Please see a doctor right away. Anemia also needs to be ruled out since you are bleeding so much.

Constipation and: hemorrhoid management work together. Increasing fiber--whole grain bread/cereal, fruits and veggies--generous water intake and more exercise should help regularity.  OTC creams or suppositories can improve the pain/symptoms of hemorrhoids and stop the bleeding. You should only use them about a week. If bleeding persists, see doc for eval and possible rubber band ligation or injection of hemorrhoid

Other way round : Hemorroids don't usually cause constipation but constipation is a common cause of hemorrhoids. Constipation causes us to stay on the toilet longer and push harder which can cause hemorrhoids to swell and become symptomatic. The best treatment is change your diet to include lots of fresh fruit and whole grains (fiber)  and possibly a stool softener. Visit your doctor for more suggestions.

They are associated.: I assume the contractions you are inquiring about are intestinal or colon cramps. Constipation is usually a functional problem caused by a lack of dietary fiber. When the colon and rectum have to generate more pressure than they are designed to work at, this results in cramps, hemorrhoids and diverticulosis.

Avoid constipation: should avoid meds that cause constipation. also do warm sits bath 3 times a day for 10 days, and apply hemorrhoid cream after each bath, suppositories don't help much. High fiber diet is also beneficial.
