Constipation : More likely you are constipated from surgery and anesthesia. Take the appropriate laxatives and even a suppository or enema if necessary to clean out then see if your pain persists.

Need Appointment: Whenever a patient tells me their stool looks like coffee grounds they need a test to see if this is digested blood within the intestines. Abdominal adhesions can increase your risk of bowel incarceration (twisting). I would make an appointment soon to have your stool sample analyzed.

Adhesions : You should check with your general surgeon to get his input on why this occurring with foods and liquids.   I think you should be using colace quite frequently. Also you can use mineral oil 1 tbsp three times a day and this would help lubricate the intestines. Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) and or fiber works very well. Try metamucil   good luck and feel better.

Constipation remedy: There is no one size fits all constipation remedy, but pts your age usually have constipation due to lack of fiber in the diet, low water intake, excess meats, or drugs that slow gut movement (pain killers). Try drinking more water, eating fiber (fruits, veggies, oatmeal), taking metamucil, or cutting down on meats or pain meds.

Constipation: Constipation can be caused by lack of fiber in the diet. Please decrease sugars and fats in diet, and increase foods with fiber, like beans and green leafy vegetables. Drink lots of water.

See: A GI specialist. Try high fiber soft diet, drink plenty of fluids and increase activity level. Your GI May place you on stool softener, laxatives and or suppository or rectal manual stool evacuation if indicated

Fibers and fluids: Benefiber, metamucil, fibercon are all safe for use during pregnancy. Increase fluids and keep active. Roughages such as fresh/leafy veggies and fruits are healthy and will help constipation as well. Mineral oil can also be used because it is not absorbed. If hypothyroid, dosge of med may need to be increased. If persistent, consult doc for eval. Congrats on your pregnancy. Good luck.

High fiber and ...: Quickest way to cure constipation may not necessarily be the best way because constipation varies in duration, from person to person and can be caused by  many conditions.  There are many OTC remedies one can try initially and if they do not do the job see the PCP or Gastroenterologist for help. For prevention adding High fiber foods &amp; probiotics could be quite helpful.
