C a doc: Certainly can start with your primary doc, rather than starting with a secondary doc, like a colon specialist. Global evaluation, including diet, meds, activity , medical,  history including pregnancy/obstetrical, physical exam, including rectal/pelvic/neurologic. May need simply diet changes etc, may need further eval including colonoscopy, pelvic sono, etc.

Possibly: That is a lot of polyps! probably concerned about the integrity of your colon if they have to remove too much tissue or the possibility of cancer.

Prep for colorectal: If you are referring to an office visit with a colon &amp; rectal surgeon, no prep is usually preferred unless the office specifically told you to take an enema prior to the visit. Most Colon &amp; rectal surgeons would rather no prep as they gain alot of information on a patient in the unpreppred state. If you are referring to prepation of your colon prior to colonoscopy, your doc should have specified.

my husband is 79 1/2 years old and have mass polyp on his descending colon. the doctor want to remove part of his colon , is emr another option ?

Accepted Answer

Maybe, but..: Early stage, superficial, and pre-cancerous lesions may be amenable to endoscopic mucous resection. However, more extensive, or more deeply extending, masses will require  a wider resection to be sure it's removed more completely and safely. Getting a second opinion, or having another conversation with your care team, are good options.

Good chance: With this many polyps others could easily have been missed or you could grow small polyps in a year i agree with repeat procedure 1yr. Also will determine how fast you grow polyps and determine future schedule if procedure.

Entire sigmoid colon: The report you mentioned used standard language for a complete sigmoidoscopy. The report is telling the reader that the doctor used a sigmoidoscope to look at the colon from anus to rectum up to and including the proximal sigmoid colon. The evaluation stopped before reaching the bottom of the left descending colon.

Colon hydrotherapy: I do not get excited about any therapy that is unproven and claims to cure multiple maladies. With this particular organ in the body, i much rather have things move out rather than being put in. I really do not find patients asking for this therapy very much.

: Colon cancer is rarely the cause of rectal bleeding at your age so you should not worry much in the mean time. You will need an anoscopy or sigmoidoscopy for the diagnosis of rectal bleeding and internal hemorrhoids are probably the most common cause, especially you had a baby recently. Good luck.

Are you kidding?: The doctor examined you and diagnosed you with Hemorrhoids. Rectal bleeding is most commonly hemorrhoids. It is not colon cancer. That is not how cancer appears or is diagnosed. If you do not believe us then get your hemorrhoids treated and then consider asking a GI specialist for a screening colonoscopy.
