a miscarriage is a process where the pregnancy is unable to be maintained for a number of reasons.  the uterus contracts and you feel cramping pain.  If the pregnancy is farther along this can cause slight opening (dilatation) of the cervix.  Most of the time if this occurs it returns to normal in the first 3-4 wks. after the miscarriage.

Had heavy bleeding which has stopped. if i miscarried would my cervix would still be closed? i am 6 weeks and 2 days along.

At six weeks along the products of conception aren't very big. If you had heavy bleeding then there is a good likelihood that you miscarried. To be sure whether you miscarried or not you could get a pelvic ultrasound which may show a gestational sac. You might also get a quantitative hCG to give some idea of whether you have a viable pregnancy.

At  4 weeks 5 days my 1st hcg was 313, 2 days later 250, my cervix was closed had slight bleeding from ectropion. am i going to misscarry?! no pain

in a viable pregnancy the beta hCG concentration doubles every 48 hours.if that is not the case or HCG concentration decreases then the likelihood is that this is not a viable pregnancy.

The cervical response after a miscarriage will vary from person to person. Treatment should be based on the amount of bleeding, hemodynamic stability and whether or not there is tissue still present in the uterus. Treatment is not really based on whether or not the cervix is open or closed

I hope you have contacted your dr. He can guide you. You may very well loose the baby.  It is too early to tell  your dr will tell you which activity you should avoid.

The doctors who examined you would have the best advice since they can question you and have seen this "cut".  Would rely on those caring for you to be much more capable of formulating an opinion as to cause of this than anyone over the internet. Good luck and have a great baby.

It is possible; however close follow-up is still important. During very early pregnancy with bleeding, your doctor will monitor your HCG level to confirm that it is rising appropriately. You may also need another sonogram to evaluate your pregnancy. If you pass any tissue (resembles meat) or start bleeding more than 2 pads an hour or feel dizzy/faint, please go to the er.

I ovulated on 6/18, then had what i thought was a full period on 7/2. on 7/8 i had positive hcg of 231 and on 7/11 had hcg of 539. dr. says bleeding can be normal, but how? isn't cervix closed?

correct, some bleeding is common and can also be normal. This often gets called 'implantation bleeding' or (worse) 'decidual bleeding' if it happens  a little later on; neither term has a concise meaning, just ways of saying "some women bleed early in pregnancy, we aren't sure why." The cervix is mostly closed but not shut tight, this is similar to how you bleed with a menstrual period.

Most likely the cervix is still a bit soft and a little open. I am sorry for your loss. :(

Bleeding and cramping is always worrisome - but not diagnostic of miscarriage. Without additional information (your gestational age, pregnancy history) it is impossible to say anything more specific. I you have an OB doctor I recommend you call him/her as your next step, and best wishes.
