Depends: Your doc should have provided you with instructions on how to take care of it. The problem is that it depends on the location of the wound, the type of wound and the type of repair done. Normally, there is a period after repair that the wound needs to stay dry and covered. After that exposure to water is recommended but when, again depends on the wound, location and type of repair.

could you tell me what household items can i use to clean and stitch a wound in an emergency?

Keep it simple: Use plain soap and water gently to clean in and around the wound.  Pat dry gently. The problem is finding something to "stitch" the wound together that is not carrying a lot of dust, dirt and stuff. Plain thread would work but you increase your risk of infection with it.  Better to cover the open area with a clean cloth and get to someone who can do what really needs to be done to maximize healing.

is betadine or peroxide and a gauze pad enough to clean my stitches without getting infected?

Infection prevention: It depends on the wounds and the location of the wound.If the wound is clean like at home with a knife, or surgical or fall at home, then betadine or peroxide will be ok.But if the wound is dirtyfrom outside, or animal bite etc, then a use of antibiotic cream and some time aral antibiotics will be recommended to prevent wound infection.

i had a cyst removed on the outside lip of my vagina last week. im getting stitches removed next week, but today i stupidly had sex with my bf. im worried i could have gotten an infection. i cleaned it afterwards. stitches didnt rip?

: This is unlikely to have been harmful. But check with your doctor if the area becomes painful, swollen, etc.

hydrocelectomy- i have replaced the gauze two days after the op. how should i clean the wound? some stitches came off. can i leave it alone until tue?

Just leave it...: Since bleeding stopped and incision sealed, it's good idea to leave it alone but keep it dry by opening it to air off and on, and cover it with thin protective gauze. It would most likely be okay to wait until tuesday. Of course, if anything unexpected occurs, seek urgent attention; but from what you described, you would be fine as long as being comfortable and getting better slowly day by day.

Probably ok: There will be some pain after injury, even a clean cut.  This should diminish in a couple of days.  As long as the site is not red or draining pus, and the pain limited to the cut, it should be okay.  Keep it clean and protected from further injury.  If in doubt, see your md.

Infection?: If it hurts but there's no swelling, redness, or pus draining from the incision, then you just need to wait it out.  Elevating the hand will help.  But if you see signs of infection, you should see a doctor.

Simple cleaning OK: Many wounds will continue to ooze a bit of serum after closure & that can build up & provide food for skin germs that could later invade & infect it. A  brief cleaning of the area with soap & water or peroxide  being sure to leave it dry can remove the serum & prevent infection. Working around stitches with a wet q tip is also helpful.

Wound care: Gently wash the area with mild soap & warm water; rinse; pat dry; apply clean dressing if one was present (ideally, antibiotic ointment, non-stick dressing, topper gauze/tube gauze if available & appropriate to the wound site). Watch for signs of infection: heat, redness, increased pain, pus, separation of wound edges.

i got stitched up 2 days ago, is it okay if it is still oozing? how do i clean it?

Let me help: If the oozing is minor and have no redness and swelling that will be fine, it should get less with time, you could clean with hydrogen peroxide with no problems.Good luck, thank you.
