Ideally, : Ideally, it is best to avoid sticky foods and chewing gum while the space maintainers are in place.  It is wise to limit sticky foods even without orthodontic appliances present, in order to help prevent decay.  Otherwise, there is no real special diet to adhere to.

my child is 4 years old, and was on doxycycline bid for 7 days. what are the chances of his teeth staining? if so, will the only affect his baby teeth or his permanent teeth when they come in?

: Firstly, all of his primary teeth are formed and erupted so they would not be affected. Doxycycline does not bind to calcium as well as older tetracycline medications did, so the research indicates there should be no issues.

i have a 8 yr old child who's milk teeth are falling. the permanent teeth have grown but are not straight. what sort of doctor should i take my child to, a dentist, orthodontist. etc
or is it to early to consider taking them?

Orthodontist: Orthodontists are pediatric dents-facial growth and development specialists. Even if your General Dentist wants to treat, best place to be is with Orthodontic Specialist. Ask your General Dentist for the best Orthodontist in your area, who will see your child for an Initial Examination (usually free) and a discussion as to treatment alternatives and costs.

Pediatric dentist: See a pediatric dentist and they will help diagnose your daughter.  Usually all the adult tooth buds do not form at 5 years of age.  Some of the adult tooth buds form later.   Your pediatric dentist can take a panorex x-ray and will advise you.

It depends.: If the marks are minor and on the surface of tooth, a procedure called micro abrasion may be helpful. Sodium Fluoride and calcium phosphate are often applied as well to help the teeth remineralize. If the marking is more than superficial, bonding or veneer may be necessary. If the marking is from tetracycline stain, special whitening may lessen the severity of it. See a dentist to find out!

Dental anatomy: Size, shape, position in the arch, enamel density.  Ask your Dentist.  He/she will know by clinical appearance and appearance on x-ray.  So give your Dentist a call.  If you don't have a Dentist it's time to find one.  Ask local Dental Society, your friends, co-workers, family.  Or see if there is a Dental School near you.

Exam and x-ray: It sounds as if you've been through multiple extractions in your past.  I have several patients who have been through similar circumstances.  The one thing to keep in mind- is that just because the tooth may not be visible in the mouth, doesn't mean that the entire root has been removed.  If the tooth has broken off at the gum line, then there is still a remnant which needs to be removed.
