Symptom relief-: You can certainly give your child something like tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen for pain relief, even when they are not running a temperature. Lying flat while sleeping also hurts more, so prop up or sleep reclining. If old enough, sometimes helps to chew to relieve pressure, so gum or chewy candy like gummy bears. Finally, if pain not relieved by simple measures, needs to be seen by doc to see if needs med.

Start with this: Eventually he should be seen, but there are some things you can do now to buy some time &amp; help him a lot sooner. Ibuprofen dosed for size (if over 6 mo) helps some &amp; can be repeated as needed every 6 hrs. A heating pad to the affected side of the head (low heat) often distracts the brain from pain input to sensing comfort from heat.

Usually more mg's: Amoxicillin orally taken for an ear infection can be done into 3 doses each day. First dose is with breakfast, around 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. Third dose is before bedtime, around 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Middle dose is about halfway in between. In an ear infection situation, we don't worry too much about exactness. A common dose is 250mg three times a day or 500mg twice a day.

multiple sources: The nerve branch that supplies the ear drum is part if the verve that supplies the jaw joint and teeth. Many times there are crossover messages between these structures where the person senses the issue as the ear but the issuew is somewhere else. It is so common we have a medical code for it for the records. Most of these respond to antiinflamatory medications like ibuprofen.

36 yo female with right ear pain for 2 days (no fever, drainage or other symptoms). history of ear infections as adult and child. i take azathioprine for crohn's. should i go to doctor or wait?

Earache-wait?: Hard question.  Pain is your body's way of saying that ain't right.  Generally i would say two days, you should be seen.  Barring obvious signs of serious illness and a contraindication to using decongestants, afrin nasal spray, otc antihistamines like Claritin or zyrtec and valsalva maneuvers (popping ear like you coming down a mountain) may do the trick. Don't forget teeth can cause ear pain.

my daughter is complaining of ear pain. she also has a cough. what can i do?

If : If a child is having ear pain, it is very common that they develop an ear infection after having a cold.  Tylenol (acetaminophen) and advil will usually help the discomfort, but ear infections can be quite painful.  Some children will need an antibiotic prescription for an ear infection.  There are also topical drops that can be helpful for the pain.  I hope she is feeling better soon.
