Child ear pain?

Symptom relief-: You can certainly give your child something like tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen for pain relief, even when they are not running a temperature. Lying flat while sleeping also hurts more, so prop up or sleep reclining. If old enough, sometimes helps to chew to relieve pressure, so gum or chewy candy like gummy bears. Finally, if pain not relieved by simple measures, needs to be seen by doc to see if needs med.

Causes?: In addition to the answers of drs codero and maes, remember that children complain of ear pain from any inflammation or irritation in the oral cavity, such as an infected throat, mouth ulcer(s), teething etc.A good ear (and throat)exam is necessary to determine the exact cause. In addition a stuffy nose from a URI or allergies may cause ear pain in a child.

Ear Pain Child: Ear pain is extremely common in childhood and although it is distressing, is usually caused by a minor infection that will resolve on its own. It can be VERY painful, due to pressure inside the ear drum so treating with pain killers like paracetamol +/- ibuprofen is the main treatment. If fevers and pain are ongoing for more than 3 days, then we sometimes advise antibiotics.
