Possible: It is possible to have a blighted ovum with normal to high levels of hcg. Best way to diagnose blighted ovum vs. Viable pregnancy in early pregnancy is with transvaginal ultrasound. Fetal heart activity can usually be identified on transvaginal ultrasound by 6-6.5 weeks estimated gestational age.

3 months: A good rule is to wait for at least 3 normal periods before you attempt pregnancy again. This allows for the inner lining of the uterus to get back to normal. The chance of another bo is not increased because you had 1 bo, therefore it is the same, less than 5% of diagnosed pregnancies.

I run a specialty practice where we can US patients when the hCG is above 2000, so we routinely do 6 week ultrasounds. Recurrent Miscarriag: The risk of a first miscarriage is usually quoted at 15% but the risk increases with maternal age (30-60% over 40). The chance of another miscarriage increases from 15% to about 25-30% for the next pregnancy. On the flip side - thinking positively - the chance of success is very high 70-75%. A single miscarriage is common and most couples go on to have a normal pregnancy.

Depends on testing: A blighted ovum means that that portion of the embryo that was to become the baby did not develop properly, but the portion that was to become the placenta did.  So you have rising hormone levels and even a gestational sac in the uterus, but the sac is 'empty'.  Older women with poor egg quality have higher chances of blighted pregnancy.  If there is no genetic issue with you, then <15% chance.
