Accepted Answer

Yes.: Cold sores are viral infections.  Especially the first time you get the infection, there can be a lot of lymph node swelling, pain and even fever.  Recurrences of cold sores will often happen when you are stressed, such as with another viral infection.  Lymph nodes in the neck will swell from both cold sores on the lip or colds.

Not usually: Thyroid abnormalities are typically biochemical (hormonal) and not structural.  An MRI can pick up nodules or tumors, but not functional abnormalities.

Accepted Answer

: Ectopic means an unusual location. Thymus gland is usually in the chest but it can be located ectopically in the neck hence the term ectopic cervical thymoma, i.e. a tumor originates from the thymus which is located at an unusual location in the neck (cervical area).

10 weeks ago i herniated a cervical disc. im fine now except when i drive i get a pinprick pain on my neck its a bit sore, will it go do you think?

Prognosis : I refer to dr benson&#x27;s report / study in 2010 which confirms prior studies that even large herniated discs that symptomatically improve early on have a favorable long term non surgical prognosis.  Ann r coll surg engl. 2010 march; 92;#40;2;#41;: 147–153. Conservatively treated massive prolapsed discs: a 7-year follow-up.  It should be a full text free article if you would like to google it.

Doctor can examine: Swollen glands (lymph nodes) in the head and neck of a young adult are most commonly from some infection such as a cold, the seasonal flu, a sinus infection, scalp or skin infections, etc... Those conditions cause inflammation can cause swollen lymph nodes in and around the neck. Of course, it's possible that the swollen glands are due to other reasons, too. One's primary care doctor can help.

Yes, could be. Best: both study neck, salivary &amp; lymph node anatomy online &amp; seek help worthy of your trust to help sort out if soreness is salivary glands vs. lymph nodes infection (viral vs. bacterial) or (very unlikely) cancer (rarely soar/pain until late/advanced). Without more specifics, detailed interactive history, questions &amp; examination, it is difficult to be of more help. Good Luck.

Lymphadenopathy: Without being able to examine you it is very difficult to even imagine what this is, but it sounds inflammatory.  Lymph nodes fight inflammation for their living.  Might be from a tooth, gums, tonsils, other. If it keeps up get examined by your pcp. Good luck.

i was fiddling with my right bottom gum on sun.was checking if one would grow here.on mon i woke up with an inflamed gum right where i was fiddling, feels even more inflamed this morning. gland on my neck in right also sore. doesn't seem to have pus?

Gum soreness: If there was gum discomfort before you fiddled with it, a periapical abscess would be a possibility. In view of worsening discomfort and a possible reactive lymph node I recommend consulting a dentist or oral surgeon for evaluation, advice and treatment.
