Prognosis : I refer to dr benson's report / study in 2010 which confirms prior studies that even large herniated discs that symptomatically improve early on have a favorable long term non surgical prognosis. Ann r coll surg engl. 2010 march; 92;#40;2;#41;: 147–153. Conservatively treated massive prolapsed discs: a 7-year follow-up. It should be a full text free article if you would like to google it.

Wait another week: Many herniated discs like what sounds like what you are having will resolve on its own in a few days to weeks. If you are still in a lot of pain and anti-inflammatories are not helping or if you notice numbness/weakness presenting itself then seek medical care to evaluate this further.
