The doctor prescribing the medication has to consider potential benefit vs. risk - and hopefully this was done to your satisfaction. If not, ask questions - it's their job. Usually the most critical time for any medication and pregnancy is the first trimester, if that's past, then I don't worry so much

What symptoms ?: Cephalexin can cause some queasiness. The infection for which you are taking it could also cause some symptoms. However, if you have been having unprotected sex, pregnancy is also a possibility. To know for sure, if your period is late, do a pregnancy test and, if it is negative, repeat it in 3-5 days. It is not uncommon: It is not uncommon to urinate frequently in the first trimester of pregnany.As long as there is no discomfort or pain, blood in urine there may be no problem.Apparently you have been treated for a UTI by your doctor.I will advise to follow up and have another urine culture done to make sure the infection has cleared.

im 13 weeks pregnant and was prescribed cephalexin 500 3x/day for a uti. is this the appropriate dosage? ive been reading it should only be taken twice a day?

: It is not unusual during pregnancy to go with a higher dose of some antibiotics because your immune system is "dumbed down" so your body doesn't reject the baby as a foreign object.    The body can't help as  much to fight infections. The dose you describe is by no means out of the usual. At times, taking more frequently helps keep blood level from dipping too low between doses.

Cephalexin safety: Cephalexin is FDA pregnancy category B. Animal studies have not shown any evidence of fetal harm. In humans, the medicine had been used in pregnancy without any evidence of harm to the baby. I think your doctor must have taken this into account because a kidney infection actually puts u and the baby at risk for something bad to happen- so u need the treatment. We call this benefit vs risk.

i took cephalexin for strep throat 3 days after unprotected sex. could i be pregnant?

HPT: Whenever you have unprotected sex it puts you at risk for pregnancy. If your period is late please take a home pregnancy test.
