If the test is positive for celiac disease, she can go on a gluten-free diet. If the test is negative, but she still wants to try a gluten-free diet anyway, she can do a 1-2 month trial off all gluten and watch what happens.

Extremely itchy bumps or blisters appear, especially on the forearms.The lab abnormalities you describe are not typical for celiac; in fact serum globulins may be low. I suspect more than one diagnosis; continue working closely with her Doctor

: Gluten is but one component in the complex structure of several grains. In celiac, consumption triggers antibodies that mostly attack the gut lining leading to cramping/diarrhea/pain. You are more likely to have a simple allergy to some of these items, not celiac. Blood tests that show specific antibodies in a person consuming gluten help define celiac. Intestinal biopsy is the standard for dx.

A person can have both an allergy to wheat &amp; antibody triggering from gluten intake. You define celiac by having the antibody tests &amp; if positive, an intestinal biopsy.

Could be any: Most likely acute infection. Cdiff often presents with bloody stools . Celiac usually does not have fever, but the body can respond in any fashion. If you have concerns see your md and get a stool test and blood test done (blood for celiac) . Stool can rule our cdiff.
