i am a 25 year old woman. a few weeks ago i noticed slight swelling two inches below my navel and just to the left. i have no other symptoms.

Does it resolve?: Does it disappear at some times and seem more prominent at others? Hernias are usually initially painless ill defined masses in the abdomen.

No other symptoms? So no fever, no pain, no rectal bleeding, no change in your periods?

If you can actually palpate a mass go and see a doctor.

8 days ago i developed  a swelling just above my navel that is visible only if i stand and lean back.it sticked out more at the beggining,now less.

Navel: You may have a small umbilical hernia that is only noticeable on that maneuver. Another possibility is a separation of the rectus muscles of the abdominal wall when you tense these which is not a true hernia. If you note persistence of the lump, consult a general surgeon for evaluation and advice.

Depends: Any number of things may be at play here. More information is needed. An md visit is advised, as a boil is an infection whose source and presentation will allow a proper diagnosis and treatment.

See a doctor ASAP: This should be examined and evaluated for infection before it becomes more serious.  Please do this right away.

Navel infection: If there is rapidly spreading redness you would need to see a physician to get started on systemic antibiotics. Otherwise clean with soap and water, pat dry and apply an antibacterial ointment like bacitracin. Avoid tight fitting garments. Protect area with gauze and use paper tape.  Do this daily until odor and pus resolves. If they persist, see MD.

had a robotic keyhole myomectomy 3 weeks ago. the umbilical incision is painful and swollen. so is the area around the navel. could it be hernia? the swelling on top of the belly button never gone down?

: There are many possible etiologies-including an incisional infection. You should call the surgeon so this can be examined and treated by the surgeon. You may need antibiotics if it is an infection and it may need to be treated if it is a hernia. But, your surgeon needs to examine you to make a diagnosis. Good luck!

ihad umbilical hernia surgery last year.  a few months ago swelling has appeared above  navel.  doc said it was lack of  muscle tone.  still concefned?

Need Hernia Check: It sounds like your doctor is describing diastasis rectii, a common condition where the normally-fused rectus ("6-pack") muscles separate; this may look like a hernia but is cosmetic only. Alternatively, you may have developed a recurrent hernia. I suggest you return to see your hernia surgeon or seek out a second opinion--this is easily resolved by a careful hernia exam. Good luck!

A HERNIA: usually the only thing that will cause swelling in the navel is umbilical hernia.you do not have to have pain to have a hernia.
see a surgeon, for evaluation,and if it is big enough for surgery,then that will take care of it.

Lower extremity : Swelling may result from different things such as problems with the veins or lymphatic system, systemic conditions like high blood pressure or heart failure, and trauma like sprains and fractures. A visit to your primary care physician or podiatrist may help to uncover the cause.  If the swelling is sudden and in only one extremity, a you should see your doctor immediately to rule out a blood clot.
